About Port Authorities
There are several port authorities in Empire that operate ports and other transportation infrastructure. Port authorities are governmental or quasi-governmental public authority, established for a special-purpose. Port authorities are usually financially self-supporting. They are also known as port districts. They have the authority to own land, set fees, and sometimes they even levy taxes. They also take care of the civic amenities in the area. Port authorities are authorised to operate shipping terminals, airports, railroads, and irrigation facilities. These entities are generally governed by boards or commissions. Such a board or commission consist of members who are governmental chief executives. These members generally come from different jurisdictions.
