Pesticides

A pesticide is a substance that is used to rid an area of a particular kind of pest or to suppress the life cycle of any pest. Pesticides are used in various environments and some of the commonly used pesticides are bactericides, baits, fungicides, herbicides, insecticides, rodenticides, lures and repellents. Bactericides prevent the spread of bacteria and are used in swimming pools and on garden plants they are also used as industrial disinfectants. Baits are products that are mixed with food that is eaten by the pest. Baits could be used to trap larger animals such as foxes, rabbits and wild dogs and there are also baits that are used to eradicate insects such as cockroaches and ants.

Fungicides are used to control harmful effects or fungus or the destroy fungus. Insecticides prevent insect infestation and can be used to control a variety of insects. Lures are chemicals that attract pests to a pesticide. Repellents do not kill pests but rather drive them away. Rodenticides are chemicals that are used to destroy rodents such as rats and mice. Pesticides are mostly used in the field of agriculture to protect crops from insects and diseases and to stop the growth of weeds. Pesticides usually contain bromine, chlorine, oxygen, phosphorous, and nitrogen.
