Concrete works are the most common solution to several issues in the construction industry since the latter half of the 20th century. Over the last few decades, concrete has been used to raise some of the world most well known structures. More modern applications of concrete include furniture, bathtubs, fountains, statues, fireplaces and hemispheres, etc. Concrete works refers to operations that care carried out to raise concrete structures and installations. The basic procedures that come under concrete works include the preparation and delivery of concrete mix, curing of concrete, quality control, and feeding, distributing and compression of concrete into moulds. Concrete works also involves providing solutions for structures or buildings made of concrete, such as installation of concrete floors and reinforced slabs.
The preparation procedure is carried out at concrete plants or in mobile concrete mixers, usually mounted onto trucks. Concrete plants are set up with huge facilities to acquire, store and mix various components in various compositions to produce concrete. Several operations are performed at concrete plants such as batching, mixing the components and transportation of concrete mixture to construction sites. Most concrete plants have their own recipe or formula of ingredients and quantities used to produce their concrete mix. Each batch of the concrete mix is loaded into a concrete-mixer truck and is transported to the construction site from the plant. Feeding concrete refers to projecting the concrete mix onto a surface using a pump or blower. Compaction is an important procedure in concrete works. It ensures that the concrete fills the entire gap between reinforcement rods or other underlying metal structures.
Curing cement involves a temperature-humidity system, which is used to harden the compacted concrete mix. Some common curing methods include application of water-asphalt emulsion, protective polymer coating, ethynol varnish, etc. These techniques help prevent evaporation of moisture. In some cases, sand or sawdust is placed over the hard cement, which is constantly wetted to harden the structure. With growing use of concrete and concrete products, there are several institutions that deal with concrete works in UAE. Some of these traders in tiles, blocks and other concrete works in UAE are situated at Mussafah, New Industrial City, Ras Al Khaimah, etc.
